For guests, the entrance is one of the highlights of the cruise. The city appears from a perspective no walk ashore can provide. At the same time, this remains an approach in which navigation and lookout come first.

Entering Venice changes the nature of navigation. Open water becomes a system of fairways, traffic, shallow areas and fixed references. A short visible distance does not show which route is navigable. Chart, marks, depth information and lookout must agree, while a yacht of about 15 metres needs room for course changes. The lagoon rewards a calm, prepared line rather than shortcuts.
