Background

Getting to SY HERA in Monfalcone

Car, train, air, tolls and parking from DACH, Italy and Slovenia.

Logbook Background

Monfalcone in north-eastern Italy is a practical gateway to the northern Adriatic. This guide explains how to reach SY HERA at Marina Monfalcone by car, train or air from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and Italy.

Destination

Marina Monfalcone, Via Bagni Nuova 41, 34074 Monfalcone (GO), Italy. Final access and meeting details are sent before the event.

Choosing the right journey

For a short sailing weekend, keep transfers simple. For multi-day skipper training or sailing holidays, Trieste, Venice or Ljubljana airports may be reasonable when their schedules fit better.

By car

From Vienna, Graz, Klagenfurt, Salzburg, Linz and Innsbruck, routes normally continue via Villach or northern Italy. From Munich and Nuremberg the Salzburg–Villach corridor is common; Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Cologne require more time and often justify an overnight stop. From Zurich, Basel, Bern, Lucerne and St Gallen, compare the route through northern Italy with the route via Austria. Ljubljana reaches Monfalcone through the Slovenian motorway network; Ancona follows the Italian Adriatic corridor.

Road charges in 2026

  • Austria car vignette: €9.60 one day, €12.80 ten days, €32 two months, €106.80 annual.
  • Slovenia 2A: €16 weekly, €32 monthly, €117.50 annual. 2B costs more; confirm the vehicle class and registration.
  • Switzerland: CHF 40, no short-term vignette.
  • Italy: distance-based motorway tolls; choose the correct payment lane and avoid Telepass-only lanes without a contract.

Train and airports

Monfalcone is the destination station, but the marina is not beside the station. Trieste Airport has its own railway station and is the closest airport. Venice Marco Polo connects by bus to Venezia Mestre, Treviso connects by bus to Treviso Centrale or Mestre, and Ljubljana Airport has buses, shuttles and car hire but no railway station.

Car hire and parking

Indicative small-car ranges are €90–220 for three days, €140–380 for five days and €180–500 for seven days, depending on airport and season. Insurance, deposit, cross-border permission, fuel, tolls and additional drivers can change the total. Parking exists at Marina Monfalcone, but ONBOAT confirms the appropriate area and access before the event rather than promising free parking to every participant.

Useful next steps

Compare your arrival time with Adriatic skipper training, the Adriatic sailing weekend or Adriatic sailing holidays. Allow a realistic buffer and contact ONBOAT early if the connection changes.
