From inner harbour to Tartini Square
Piran’s Tartini Square was originally the town’s inner harbour. It was filled in in 1894 and later redesigned as the central square; its elliptical form still recalls the former mandracchio. Seen from the water, Piran is therefore a town whose present public centre itself grew from a maritime space.
