On 8 July, the crew looks north from Umag. The next stage is to pass Piran, Koper is planned as the fuel stop and Monfalcone remains the destination. On this cruise, Piran is experienced from the water rather than as a harbour stay.
The coastal passage has three clear roles
Off Piran, the compact town and church tower shape the view. At Koper, fuel, commercial traffic and a possible fuel manoeuvre become the priorities. Monfalcone ends the northbound passage at HERA’s familiar berth. These roles create a useful day plan without turning Piran into a harbour stay.
Reserve keeps the return calm
Fuel, time and crew energy are organised before the final stage. A planned supply call still depends on availability, weather and traffic. HERA therefore keeps enough margin to change the plan without putting the return to Monfalcone under pressure.
The final northern stage is still a journey
After Umag, Piran, Koper and Monfalcone may already look familiar on the chart, but every section needs a new decision. Weather, time, fuel and the useful place for a stop shape the plan. Piran represents the Slovenian coast, Koper both supplies and a commercial port, and Monfalcone the end of the cruise. Approaching home does not reduce the need for navigation, lookout and a shared arrival.
Frequently asked questions
Why was Koper important?
Koper was planned as the final fuel stop before returning to Monfalcone.
Why plan nearby ports separately?
